Bearing surface wear
Wear of materialsBall bearingsSpherical objects such as ball bearings can be profiled. For polishing and shaping, surface shape can be removed. By removing the spherical figure of the measurement, highly precise measurements of surface finish and polish can be obtained. Alternatively, slope data from the measurement can be used to calculate the best fit sphere, and local asphericity can be determined.
Wear marksSurface scratches, wear and voids can be measured and their three dimensional characteristics determined that help to diagnose the nature of the failure event, as well as the volume of materials removed. The software provided with the vertical scanning interferometer is able to remove the surface curvature and present the wear or defect independent of the surface figure.
Wear analysis and volume measurements are related to failure analysis.
